Course Description
Auditory Skills Training (AST) is a form of aural habilitation/rehabilitation used with older children, teenagers and adults who receive new hearing technology such as implantable technology. In order to maximize auditory outcomes with the new hearing technology, the practitioner must be skilled in using appropriate techniques and strategies that facilitate the development of new auditory skills. The presenter will provide an overview of techniques and strategies used in AST, and the background information on the client who has been listening with her cochlear implant for one month following activation of cochlear implant. Multiple video clips of the session as it unfolds accompanies multiple choice questions which will guide the learner into identifying the what, the how and why of evidence-informed strategies and their outcomes. Missed opportunities will be highlighted as well to expand learning opportunities. This course will count for 1 hour of observation with the LSLS Academy of AGBell for those seeking observation hours toward LSLS certification.
